Getting Started — 4 Simple Steps

Open Notepad Online

Navigate to Notepad Online in any browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. No installation, no account needed. The editor loads in under a second.

Create or Select a Note

A new note is created automatically. Click the "+ Create new" button in the sidebar to add another note. Click any note in the list to switch to it instantly.

Write and Format Your Text

Click in the editor area and start typing. Use the toolbar at the top to format text — bold, italic, underline, font size, heading style, text color, alignment, and lists. You can also use keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+B for bold.

Save, Export, or Set a Reminder

Your note saves automatically every 2 seconds. To export: use File → Save as PDF for a formatted document, or File → Save txt for plain text. To set an alert: use Alert → Set Alert for This Note and choose a date and time.

Author Profile Page

Every account gets a public author page at /author/[username] listing all your published blogs. Only you can see your private shared notes on that page.

Export to PDF or TXT

Save any note as a beautifully formatted PDF or plain text file. One click from the File menu — no printer or extra software needed.

Note Reminders / Alerts

Set a date and time alert for any note. Choose your alert sound. Get a browser notification even when the tab is closed.

Backup & Restore

Is Notepad Online free?
Yes, Notepad Online is completely free to use. No subscription, no sign-up, no credit card required.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is needed for basic note-taking, formatting, exporting, and backup/restore. A free account is required to share notes via link or publish them as public blog posts.
Where are my notes stored?
By default, notes are stored in your browser's localStorage — on your device only. When you choose to share or publish a note, that specific note is also saved to our secure cloud database so it can be accessed via the link.
Can I use Notepad Online on mobile?
Yes. Notepad Online works on any device including phones, tablets, and desktops in any modern browser.
Can I export my notes?
Yes. You can export notes as PDF (File → Save as PDF) or as plain text (File → Save txt). You can also backup all notes as a ZIP file.
Does Notepad Online work offline?
Once loaded, the editor continues to work even if your internet connection drops. Notes save to localStorage which works offline.
