  • ✅ Delete shared notes at any time — they are removed from our database immediately

1. Who We Are

Notepad Online (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides a free browser-based rich-text notepad at this website. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear about what we do not do:

  • We do not read, analyze, or sell your note content — ever.
  • We do not require an account to use the basic notepad (writing, formatting, exporting).
  • We do not use tracking cookies for advertising profiling.
  • We do not share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes.

3. Data Stored in Your Browser

By default (no account), Notepad Online uses browser localStorage to save:

  • Your note content (title + body)
  • Note metadata (created date, modified date)
  • Your theme preference (light or dark mode)
  • Any alerts/reminders you set

This data lives entirely in your browser. You can clear it at any time via browser settings → Clear Site Data. We have no access to it.

3a. Data Stored in Our Cloud Database

When you create an account and choose to share or publish a note, that specific note is saved to our secure cloud database (Turso). This enables:

  • Generating a shareable read-only link for that note
  • Publishing it as a public blog post under your author profile
  • Accessing shared notes from any device

Only the notes you explicitly choose to share or publish are stored in the cloud. All other notes remain exclusively in your browser. You can remove a shared note at any time from the Share dialog — it is deleted from our database immediately.

3b. Account Data

If you create an account, we store:

  • Your display name and username (used on your public author profile)
  • Your email address (used for login; never displayed publicly)
  • A hashed password (we never store your password in plain text)

Account creation is entirely optional. The basic notepad — writing, formatting, exporting, and backup/restore — works without any account.

4. Analytics

We may use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with the site. GA4 collects anonymous usage data such as pages visited, session duration, browser type, and general geographic region (country/city). This data does not include your note content and cannot be used to identify you personally.

You can opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by enabling “Do Not Track” in your browser.

5. Advertising

Notepad Online may display advertisements through Google AdSense. AdSense uses cookies to show relevant ads based on your browsing history. These cookies are set by Google, not by us. You can manage your ad personalization settings at adssettings.google.com.

6. Browser Notifications

If you use the Alert/Reminder feature and grant notification permission, our Service Worker may show browser notifications at the time you specify. The notification permission is entirely optional — you can deny or revoke it at any time in your browser settings. We never use notification permission to track you.

7. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to external sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

8. Children's Privacy

Notepad Online is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

10. Your Rights

For guest users (no account): your notes live only in your browser — you control them entirely. To delete them, clear your browser's site data for this domain.

For account holders: you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data and any shared/published notes at any time by contacting us. To delete a shared note immediately, use the Remove link option in the Share dialog.

If you are in the EU/EEA, you may have rights under GDPR, including the right to erasure and data portability. Contact us at the email below with any such requests.
