Step-by-Step: Save & Sync Notes Across Devices

01

Open and Write — Auto-Save Starts Immediately

Open notepadonlinepro.com in any browser. The moment you start typing, Notepad Online Pro begins saving your note automatically — every 2 seconds after you pause. The status bar at the bottom shows a green "Saved" confirmation. No Ctrl+S needed. Notes persist when you close the browser.

02

Create a Cloud Backup

When you want to access notes on another device or protect them from browser clearing, click File → Backup Notes. A ZIP file containing all your notes (with all rich text formatting preserved as HTML) downloads to your computer in under a second.

03

Upload to Google Drive, Dropbox, or Any Cloud

Open Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud on your computer. Drag and drop the downloaded ZIP file. Your notes are now in the cloud and accessible from any device. Name the file with a date so you can track backups over time (e.g. notepad-backup-2026-06-08.zip).

04

Restore on Any Device

On your phone, tablet, or another computer: go to notepadonlinepro.com, click File → Restore Backup, and select the ZIP from wherever you stored it. All notes, titles, and formatting restore instantly. The backup manifest preserves note order and dates.

Save & Sync Features

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this online notepad save automatically?
Yes. Notepad Online Pro auto-saves every 2 seconds after you stop typing. The status bar at the bottom shows "Saved" when your note is saved and "Unsaved changes" while saving. You never need to press Ctrl+S manually.
Where are my notes saved?
By default, notes are saved to your browser's localStorage — a private, on-device storage area only you can access. If you sign in and share or publish a note, that specific note is also synced to our secure cloud database so it can be accessed from any device via its share link. Your other notes remain local only.
Can I access my notes on another device?
Yes, with the backup/restore workflow: 1) On device A, click File → Backup Notes to download a ZIP. 2) Upload the ZIP to Google Drive, Dropbox, or email it to yourself. 3) On device B, go to notepadonlinepro.com, click File → Restore Backup, and select the ZIP.
What happens to my notes if I close the browser?
Your notes are safe. They are stored in your browser's localStorage, which persists when you close and reopen the browser. Your last open note is remembered and loaded when you return. Notes are NOT lost when closing the browser.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
If you clear your browser's cookies and site data, localStorage is also cleared and your notes are deleted. To protect against this, back up regularly with File → Backup Notes and store the ZIP in Google Drive or Dropbox.
How do I back up notes to Google Drive?
1) In Notepad Online Pro, click File → Backup Notes. A ZIP file downloads to your computer. 2) Open Google Drive (drive.google.com). 3) Drag and drop the ZIP file into your Drive. It's now backed up to the cloud and accessible from any device.
Can I restore notes backed up on a different computer?
Yes. Download your backup ZIP from wherever you stored it (Google Drive, Dropbox, email, etc.), then go to File → Restore Backup on the new device and select the ZIP. All your notes, titles, and formatting are restored.
Is there a login or account required?
No account is needed for core features: writing, formatting, exporting, and ZIP backup/restore. A free account is required to share notes via a cloud link or publish them as public blog posts. Creating an account takes under a minute.
